New Profile Field: What's up?

So I had received many requests from you guys asking for a 'What's on your mind...' field. Well, I'm not for copying off sites like Facebook so I've made a 'What's up?' box instead. (See attachment for approximate location on your profile) This box won't appear on your profile until you have edited it for the first time. To edit the field, simple tab to the 'About Me' section of your profile and click on the little pencil under 'What's up?'.

If you're wondering what you could possibly say in this little field (and to all of you who still don't use MySpace, Facebook or other social networking sites), you could state your relationship status, how close it is to your birthday, or anything you want! Keep in mind though, the getDare rules apply. No flaming, personal attacks, proper english most preferred, links to PG13+ sites only, etc.

Simply a beta test, so if the staff sees any problems with this new feature, it will be removed. Use not abuse!

Thank you for adding this Angel I think it is a good addition to the site. As long as it is not abused.

You can't really abuse it though - it's gunna be what you write, on your profile. Won't affect anyone else

Crude remarks, porn links, asking for a Master or slave for the underage accounts. I can be and probably will be at some point.

Porn links, fair enough. Crude remarks? Unless it's directed at someone, it wouldn't bother me and I doubt anyone would take it personally. And, to be fair, even without the box, underage people could advertise ("I am a dare slave" / signature / About Me...)

This new box isn't really opening up new options for it to be abused. What can be done now with this box could easily have been done before regardless.

Just makes it easier, racial slurs could be posted, or even sexist or degrading comments about gays, lesbians and transgenders, which concerns a lot of members. In regards to M/s ads, it makes it more noticeable, you see it when you go to the profile no matter what you are going for. It gives added coverage. It gives people another place to do something they shouldn't. All this could be done before, you are correct but instead of 1 or 2 places they now have another.

I doubt anyone's gunna abuse it. If you wanted to make a racist comment to someone, you'd PM them, not use a profile box that everyone can see. And if people do decide to use this new box as something of a racist/horrible/etc. platform, well, that just makes the idiots easier to spot, quicker to spot, and faster to ban.

It will always be a never ending battle of stupidity. The new box is a great idea. It will get abused by someone at some point hopefully not a lot. It will point out those whom shouldn't have an account anyways. I didn't mean that someone would put "I hate person a because he is gay" I meant more along the lines of stuff like "All gays will die in hell because they are sinners."

All above are examples and not personal beliefs of mine.

Fair enough but I still very much doubt that. If someone wanted to spread their belief through that message, a line in their signature would be more efficient. Pretty much that, really. And it adds another place? That'd be after their signature, About Me, various threads and avatar, then.

Agreed great idea, and last note on the discussion before, like I said just adds another place for them to do it. Does make it more likely, just has the possibility to be in more places. /end

If you wanted to make a racist comment to someone, you'd PM them, not use a profile box that everyone can see. And if people do decide to use this new box as something of a racist/horrible/etc. platform, well, that just makes the idiots easier to spot, quicker to spot, and faster to ban.
