Spams back again (for me anyway)

Soooo, every now and then (which restarted recently) I get these emails which do get sent straight to my spam box (hehe 'spam box' sounds like a ladies part).
If I'm on some sort of mailing list that a spy-bot/slurp spider has added me to I guess there no stopping it, but if this is the case would it be better to stop/close the threads like this [link], [link] & [link], which I myself am guilty of posting on. As we are only enlisting ourselves up to spam and in this case poetical scammers by doing so.

Or - as we cannot go back and remove old posts containing info is there anything we can do to protect/prevent ourselves? I so wished I'd done the whole ObedientcalfAThotmailDOTCOM thing now.

The spam is most likely coming from a spider as you stated, crawling the site. It is possible for depp or other sysops to block certain spiders from crawling the site.(If I remember correctly). Even if it is just by block access to known crawler ips.

I so wished I'd done the whole ObedientcalfAThotmailDOTCOM thing now.

This indeed is the best way to combat against spiders but if you are being added by a human it will not slow them down.

Meh. i can write a spambot spider in roughly 10 minutes that will actively recognise and decypher out at least six different formats of email-obfuscation.

And i'm a moderate hobbyist coder at best.

If i can do it... What's to stop someone who does this for a living?

Anjelen has a good point I don't see it being terribly hard to code a spider to decode it and add it to the list, if I knew how to code a spider to start that is XD.

You can give instructions to *friendly* robots but spam bots just won't listen and can easily mask their identity.

If you are worried about spam, I would not post your e-mail in a public place. If you want people to contact you via your e-mail, have them send PMs first.

I remember giving friendly *robots* instructions, been awhile since I modded a vBulletin board. I remember my hatred for proxies as well.
