Underrated and Overrated Movies

What are some of the underrated movies you like? What films do you like that no one has really seen or like? What movies do you think is overrated? Why?

Underrated:

Mars Attacks!

This movie is so bizarre and strange, which does not surprise me, since it was made by Tim Burton. It makes fun of a lot of old, black and white, alien movies. You are going love it or think it is stupid. I used to watch this movie a lot as a kid to my parents' horror and I still love this movie.

Overrated:

Twilight (Series)

Stephanie Meyer is a horrible writer and a hack. This does not surprise me why these movies are not much better. The movies' fame totally rides on preteen girl fandom. The actors suck and only there for eye candy.

Update: I fell asleep in New Moon. Which is the worst out of the three, so far.

500 days of Summer was overrated for me personally. I know people who constantly went on about it and I found it so dull and annoying.

Dark City is one of my favourite films, but doesn't get the love it deserves. Usually seems like nobody has ever heard of it when I mention it (maybe my friends just have crap taste).

Up was definitely overrated. The plot line made no sense at all. First he was talking to a boy scout, then talking dogs with werid collars and pretty birds, and then they next scene he was running away from his hero.. I didn't get it.

Spaceballs is not underrated its just old...

Underrated: HurtLocker, no one I know saw this and It blew my mind.

Overrated: Harry Potter, The movies are ok at best

Spaceballs is overrated if anything, like most of Mel Brooks' masturbatory garbage.

Wall-E's environmentalist side is overemphasised by people (I just saw the setting as apocalyptic, I don't know why it necessarily implies conservationism) which is annoying, but it had some neat speculative stuff in there like the devolved fatties and was great as a whole.

Hurt Locker wasn't really underrated; you couldn't get away from hearing about it at Oscar time.

Overrated: The Seventh Seal, angst filled Swedish drivel that goes nowhere and does nothing.

Underrated: Metropolis, the music, the symbolism, its influence, some much that is not fully appreciated anymore.

Though I didn't actually remember hearing anyting about Wall-E other than it was adorable I don't think its really overrated. It environmentally related because earth was over polluted causing the apocalyptic feel to it. The meaning is a lot deeper than most kids movies and I really loved it.

I personally thought that avatar was overrated. Though I did think it was a pretty good movie, the overall story line made me want to die. Not a huge fan of depressing movies like that.

For underrated I though Watchmen was an amazing movie, but not many people seem to agree.

P.s. Up makes sense, for the most part, if you pay attention xD

The Passion of the Christ was a major hit, grossing in excess of $600 million. Ultimately, the movie "The Passion of the Christ" became the highest grossing non-English language film ever.

[My opinion]
It was a snuff movie. Who in hell wanted to see a man tortured for more than two hours on screen just to see him die. What purpose did this movie serve?

Definition of "overrated" from Urban Dictionary:
A term used to describe something that gets more hype and credit than it's actually worth.

Just thinking about paying ten dollars to see that crap makes me angry. I want my money back with interest!
