Non U.S: What do you think of us?

I've always wondered this. Sometimes I know we American's are the jackasses of the world, but what is YOUR opinion of us American's?

I think Americans are cool!!

Just 1 thing to note, though. Sometimes they have to understand that there are other countries other than America in the world, and that they are practicing different cultures to the Americans.

As the unofficial representative of America and the official representative of the anti-stupid, I will offer a rebuttal of the last part. While it is true that some Americans feel that way, it is the stupid ones. And the stupid do not reflect the views of all Americans. I wish I could say that they are not a majority, and while I doubt they are, I cannot guarantee it.

I understand that it is not always the case, and the remark that I made does not necessarily apply to the majority of the Americans. Thus, I purposely use the word "sometimes", which implies that there are times they need to realise it.

To clarify, I do not have the intention to start a 'war' with the Americans. It is just my 2 cent to make Americans to be even better Americans

I understand, but I need to take my war against the stupid. I think a lot of Americans understand this fact and want to experience what the entire world. I feel bad because I am kind of hickjacking this thread so I will shut up now.

You are referring to the ignorant xenophobic americans. most of us don't care where people are from. i think what you are referring to is patriotism and exceptionalism, which im sure every citizen in all countries feel of their own country.

Well, it’s different if you ask my opinion, or the opinion of the other people here

I’m living in eastern Europe, people here usually don’t really like americans (well, people here likes to hate EVERYTHING, even themselves ). They think americans are fat (because you grew up on McDonald’s food), stupid and ignorant, and all the good things in the US was made by immigrants from Europe. They hate what we call „wild capitalism” here, don’t really believe in democracy and liberalism, don’t like globalization, so they are against these usual american stuff. But usually people don’t like americans because they say you (or at least, your government) are big liars, acting like the savior of the world, but they fucked up the whole muslim world because of oil („war of terror” was just a good cause), exploiting Europe economically, and doesn’t really care about the problems of the world, if there’s no profit in it (for example, you didn’t sign the Kyoto Protocol). That’s the opinion of an average person here.

My personal opinion: I don’t know if you’re fat But I am on several american sites, and talked with a lot of americans, and I see that you aren’t stupid. Yep, you have a different way of thinking, I would say a little childish, but not stupid at all. It’s true that your government is liar – but which government isn’t? I don’t hate americans, as I saw you’re people like us, there are good and bad people in the US, like anywhere else in the world.

i like america, i like thier ambition however as with every other country in the world it has its down side. eg. a big superiority disorder, the police are bastards and racism. but on the whole i recon that america is a pretty cool place! i would like to move there one day

Individual Americans are great. American policies and the unquestioned paradigm of permanent economic growth are very dangerous for our planet... That's all I'll say or a full-blown rant will ensue (Not that many Canadians are much better- again, don't get me started...)

Some thoughts on the US and Americans...

Broadly speaking, Americans are pretty similar to everyone else - there's good and bad in us all. Most people want to have a comfortable life and protect themselves and their families from harm. I think that's a trait common to most of humanity and most Americans are no exception.

Here's some good things about Americans I often see:
A commitment to self expression
Ambition and a desire to improve circumstances
A love of innovation, especially in the scientific and technological fields
Personal compassion for others

Alternatively, here's some bad things also often see:
Insularism, a disregard for other countries except when they threaten the peace
Excessive religious fervour
An obsession with appearance over substance
Excessive capitalism
Self-satisfaction
An unofficial intolerance of difference

On the whole, do I think that the US is a positive influence on the world? Yes. Do I think a better job could be done? Certainly. How do I feel about Americans individually? Very much depends on the person. I don't think that Americans are significantly more or less likely to be nice or nasty than anyone else.

ok, if you need an honest answer. then.. we think americans are arrogant and stupids like monkeys. bcoz they always put their heads into others problems.. why they putting jands into asia and other countries..why americans just stay back look after their own country..??

I don't know all of the American people so I can't really make a judgement. I do like the America though, at least the places I've visited.
