This wheel of ballbusting misfortune has 41 spaces that I can land on.
There are 40 tortures and 1 "Skip."

How many spins should I do?

And please add a comment after you vote.

For each comment in this thread (not including my own) I will add 5 spins.

Thank you Sir for the extra fun. I'm surprised that no one chooses "until I land on Skip." That could well be more than 40 (or less). Would be an interesting gamble....

As for making it cumulative, thank you for the suggestion, Sir. Challenging, as always. Perhaps next time, in which case I might structure the poll a little differently.

Well, perhaps. Correct me if I am wrong here.

As I figure it: in order for the probability of landing on "Skip" to be 50/50, it would require 41 spins (40 spaces with tortures + "Skip" itself).

So if I have to spin "Until I land on 'Skip'" the odds are that I won't hit "Skip" until 41 spins (which of course is > 40).

Not to mention the possibility of endless frustration (and pain) if "Skip" doesn't come up in the first 40 spins. But of course it's a gamble. Depends on if you like taking chances or not, I suppose.

(Also noting that Probability and Statistics was by far my worst course in college, so I don't claim that the above figuring is necessarily correct.)

In any case, thanks for your vote and your comment. I'm sure I'll enjoy the extra five spins that your comment, like all comments, adds.

The 1/41 odds are simply a percentage and don't change even after "rolling/spinning". The chances that it appears early are almost always higher in a general sense versus just doing a flat amount. In fact, you have a higher chance of rolling it multiple times during the 40 times (obviously) which would have meant you would stop multiple occasions.

Thanks, I appreciate the explanation. As noted, Probability and Statistics was my worst class. I outright failed the final, and it was open-book.

For what it's worth you would have a 50/50 chance of rolling at least one skip by your 28th spin.
