Delete Post and Threads

Is there a way we can delete threads and post that we have created. So we can leave less of a paper trail and get rid of some comments that might have been not wise to post?

I think it would make a lot of getdare users feel safer.

I wish there was a way too. I think people will be very happy if depp would make it come true.

I'm getting to a point where, I'm panning to become a psychologist and want to work with troubled youth. I'm studying Psychology in college. I just feel that this site might be putting me in danger. I'm planing to cut down on some of the more extreme kink talk.

Also I saw a very disturbing BDSM porn video, that kind of got me thinking. The dude in the video seemed to be forced into a kinky scene. He was crying and begging for it stop. Then I notice that they cut him badly on the ass. It seemed to real to be fake. I'm wondering, if I'm part of a culture that might support rape and some antisocial personality disorder behavior. I think that it is too close to comfort.

I do have some attractions to it, but I think I might be more of a vanilla kink. Like minor acceptable stuff, like spanking (non bruising or cuts) or bondage that a lot of people do.

Well, as long as the post or thread is newly created, I'm positive that you can delete the posts at least, but as I'm not the big thread creator, I'm not so sure about that.

As for older posts you regret, or threads, I've asked a Mod to delete something I've posted a long time ago before, they're more than willing to help if you just ask nicely. =)

You can edit posts for a few days after you make them. After that they become permanent.
I am guessing, but I think that it would be too problematic to grant users too much power to edit and delete past posts. The power would almost certainly be abused by some and that would have consequences on the functionality of the getDare database. It would become messy. I believe that’s the reason why they do not allow users to delete accounts instead they implement a pertinent ban.

The best plan would be to remove any evidence pointing to your real identity. That would be pictures of your face, D.O.B., real name, contact information etc. You can do a lot of that yourself from your profile.

I can certainly understand your concerns in your future ambitions. There are other real concerns too in regards to identity theft. Identity thieves need only basic information like name and D.O.B. to begin their destructive work.

From what I have seen in my time on the site, Depp and the mods seem to be quite approachable, responsible and helpful. I am sure Depp would be helpful in getting any information that might lead to real damage to you, removed from the site. As long as you approach Depp or the mods politely and respectfully, with a realistic request, then I don’t think you will have problems.

I have always been willing to assist people who politely link to specific posts and let me know exactly what to edit out. Users can also report their own posts and request edits in the report.

We used to allow users to edit and delete all their personal posts at any time. This was causing conversations to break up and users to abuse editing in attacks on other users. As it stands now, you have a day or so to make edits to your posts. This is to preserve the conversation in it's entirety.

I always seem to have 1 week to edit posts in story. However it's easier to try to get correct in first place - preview it before posting - however at times thus can not be done eg if have some user interaction, unaware of what people will chose at first.

Have asked a few mods in past to change/ edit something that's major and from over 7 days ago, and have always had no problem in changing - just ask nicely.

Can understand what depp is meaning and reason for not editing very old posts else you would be able to say something mean etc about someone and before it comes to someones attention you could change and few would be any the wiser or have proof.

So why not have them "uneditable", but "deletable"? The deleted posts could then be viewed by mods only.

I don't think we should be able to delete posts because it'd make a conversation archive disjointed and, to my mind, when we post something, we make it so it's correct at the time. Or it's something to look back on. If you ever post something and then think you may delete it, you have to question why/what you're posting in the first place.

As for threads, I don't think they should ever be deleted, for similar reasons.

Kinda of what Betty is saying but if you ask me to delete every single one of your posts I will usually ignore you and laugh at you. But if there is info you need edited out or something along those lines, I will be more than willing to help you out

I think the suggestion is to be able to delete your own posts and threads, not anyone else's posts.
