I haven't per se made one but used household items.

My favorite toy is a set of encased beads with a vibrating controller that increases in intensity.
6. How many toys do you have and what are they?
I have three, I have a six inch long one inch thick dildoesque item, the beads I mentioned above, and a vibrating cock ring.
7. Have you bought a toy and did not like it?
Well with the dildoesque item, it was supposed to vibrate in 12 different ways, but the wiring must have got damaged or something, so it only has one low vibrating setting that you can barely feel.

As long as you can buy them from a reliable source and clean them every now and then it should be fine.

I use a lube such as saliva or olive oil, and stick something small up at first like your finger then just work the toy in gently.

Can't really say as I don't have much experience with official sex toys.
