Changes to registration system
After some complaints from users unable to register, I've disabled some of our spam detection measures that are part of the sign-up process. Usernames will no longer be checked against a blacklist of known spammers (other checks are still in place). The system is still prone to false-positives and mis-identification but hopefully this will reduce the number of people having trouble.

Good idea, Depp. If I may comment...
Members: 18,541. Are you serious? Are there that many members on here? No. What there are that many accounts. How many are active? Users active in the past 24 hours: 4629 (895 members and 3734 guests) There must be so many inactive accounts, and since many names are already taken (names that would be logical on this site), finding a username can be a hassle. My query: is it possible to 'de-activate' account names that have not been used for, say, a year? Two years? I'm just inquiring.

I've thought in the past about removing accounts stuck in activation (users who never confirmed their e-mail and can't post). I'll get around to doing this someday.
I am very much opposed to removing fully activated accounts that are just not being logged into. There are a ton of users who just long login once every month or so. I think removing their accounts would be unfair. Some even have returned after over a year. The problems with registraton were coming from a blacklist that was taking even more names than necessary out of circulation. With the blacklist being used on other user attributes other than username I don't see this as much of a problem at the moment.

It's unfair to just delete someone's account because they were away. No matter how long they were away.

It was just a query, anyway, Depp's reasons are valid and make perfect sense. I'm sure his solution is the best one, I just wanted to inquire a bit more to understand the nature of the problem and see if I could contribute to the solution.
