How do you become a staff member?

That I think is annoying, I think it would be better to hold a vote whenever we need a new mod

No, because that would lead to a popularity contest. However they do it, it works.

Oh and Yours? I've never been asked to be a staff member, and I don't think I'm ever going to be asked.

collared is right on both counts, last I knew of depp and the mods discuss potential candidates when the need is there for them to make more mods, them if selected depp will PM the member to ask them to be a mod. I also think this is the best way to do it because as she said, this way they can chose whoever they think is best fitted to be the mods, rather than people voting for whoever their friends are- which may lead to someone more suitable being left on the side lines.

The citizens of the United States of America can hardly vote for good presidential canidants. Any time a vote is in place it truly does become a popularity contest.

That's true Star but more importantly we are users on the site, it's depp's site so he has the power, although he consults the others, he owns it so people should see it that way, he owns it and he chooses!

I've found that the people who want to moderate the site are often not the people who should be. I've also found that popularity does not equate to being a good mod. There are exceptions but after doing this for a while I've come up with a way that I think works well. Staff are invited and only after a discussion in which all existing moderators have their say.

Indeed, we would never invite friends to be mods.

The discission is not resolved over night, many things are looked into. After everyone has had their say the chairman (depp) makes a decission

Agreed, afterall, were all / most human beings and the popular people on here make lowsly mods (in most cases)

Not sure if that is true, the ones that are popular because of their work are how many become mods. I do get the way you're looking at it though, just because you have a lot of friends doesn't mean you do anyting for the site. The job should mean more to you than the title. You have to actually want to help the site more than be known or "famous"

To be honest, besides talking to rachie like 3x more than I was and actually seeing leo, I haven't done anything differently. Instead of reporting I just do reports. Surpisingly not really that different at all.

Well there is not set rule / time scale for how often, it's more of when we feel there is a need (not want)

Some moderators are more active than others. People do have a daily life and can get busy at times. If this arrises and there is a need for a new moderator, we sit down like toddlers and have a discussion over a chocolate biscuit until the right person is BELIEVED to be found.

Basic answer - No set time scale
