Geeks/Nerds.
These two labels are often interused and are taken to mean similar things, more often than not.
So I was curious... 1) How do you differentiate each one? 2) Are they the same thing? 3) Any other comments? |

Geeks and Nerds are essentially the same thing with one difference. Geeks have a higher IQ than Nerds.
I believe a Grad School Geek did a formal Master's degree research paper on this topic just to improve Geeks public relation standings in the general population. |

I thought a geek was like the short skinny kid with glasses that could hack into anyone's computer and a nerd was just someone who was really smart and knew the answer to every question.
But maybe that's just me.

And I thought a nerd was just someone generally nerdy and awkward. Not always smart though.

I thought Geeks were into fictional stuff but somewhat sciencey like sci-fi or xbox or summit but nerds better at exams and are just spliting hairs.

Then we take geek. Geeks and nerds share similar social standing and may even act or like the same things or share similar interests in hobbies, but geeks aren't as cerebral as nerds. Compare "band geek" to "chess nerd". |

In England, geeks are the more academic people, while nerds are those with obsessive hobbies like comics and board games like Dungeons and Dragons.
With that being said, I'm a bit of both, but more of a nerd.

I thought it was the other way around. Or, at least, that's how I've always classified the two.

I've been called both interchangeably, but in a joking way. I'm really smart/studious, 4.0 GPA in college, majoring in Accounting and CIS (Computer Information Systems), but I also have this addiction to anything Star Wars related. Ask me anything about Star Wars and I'll be able to tell you about it. But, I don't lack the social skills most geeks/nerds do.
So... I'm just a loveable dork <3 |

I think:
GEEKS are into obscure pop culture (games/films/TV/comics/books/internet). NERDS are smarty-smarty-pants who know all the answers in class and wear their trousers up past their nipples. From that point of view, imma geek Ebon Hawk Section 31 Lucian Alliance Calendar Man The Fortress of Solitude "What the frak?" "We have top men working on it now. Top... men." Walternate "It's over nine thousand!" "There's no point being grown up if you can't be childish sometimes!" War Machine T-1000 Cybernetic Organism Soap Mactavish Tom Bombadil Ceiling Cat Win Fail /geek credentials |

I see Nerds as the really smart ones, and Geeks as social people but in a non-normal way(Socially awkward). Also, possibly smart but not borderline genius.
This being said I am a Geek even though 2 + 2 challenges me sometimes. Spoiler:
I really am smart...

Nerds are people that know a lot about science, maths, computing or combinations of them, they often have poor social skills and are introvert. No, however there are large areas of overlap These are just my opinions/personal observations. I belive I am a geek however I do have a small amount of nerd
