Has anyone ever posted a meme thread on getDare before?

Here's the deal. Each day, you come back and post your thoughts on the relevant subject. The overall theme for this meme is TV, and the list is as follows...

For me, the answer has to be the original run of Doctor Who. I won't bore you with 'why' but there's my answer for today

Day 01 - Freaks And Geeks

By far the best 'teen drama' ever made. Unlike aspirational garbage like O.C, One Tree Hill and the original and rebooted Beverly Hills(I think its called 90210 nowadays) it was a fairly realistic portrayal of teenage life. You could relate with the characters because it followed a group of 'average' teenagers who deal with 'average' issues, not the world's most rich, vapid group of classmates. It was an exception to the rule that says all teenage dramas should be all about how every minute of your life when you are 15 is the ''most important thing ever!"!"!"!!"!'' as OC and every other melodramatic over cliched show tries to convince you.

The person you had a crush on, not turning out to be who you thought or having controlling parents -> you can relate to and sympathise with. The whole show embraced normalcy. Even its setting, Chippewa, Michigan, a fictional suburb of Detroit and not Beverly Hills or Orange county, is a testament to that. This is not to say that any of the characters lacked personality, they were all unique and genuinely interesting. The characters in 90210, are not interesting, they are identifiable cause they are fictional cliches and it seems like people are more concerned with being identifiable than interesting which is why you see idiots in the real world, imitating these fictional characters.

An ultra spoiled, ultra rich, ultra 'gorgeous' teenager(who looks 27 and wears make up at all times) bitching and moaning and just being as superficial as you can get, I can't sympathise with. Truth is that its plain sad that this is considered 'aspirational tv' cause its just ghastly. I see teens wanting/''aspiring'' to 'be' these people.

Clearly as the the only (as far as I'm aware) intelligent teen drama, its audience wasn't brain dead bimbos and teenagers who want to live their superficial fantasies through tv shows (hence the term ''aspirational'') and its a shame that it was cancelled after one season because it could have gone on to deal with so many issues. The James Franco character, the geeks, the whole fucked up family thing of the blonde (don't remember the names of characters

), sex and sexuality, ......

Also they used proper actors, cast for their acting ...... not their boobs or six packs.

l know I'm ranting and not making much sense cause I wrote these in two minutes and didn't have a chance to read it twice, but in my head the fact that Freaks and Geeks was cancelled after one season, yet One Tree Hill gets a gazillion seasons and 90210 a remake, is partly a reflection of what is wrong from a macrosociological perspective with people aged 13-30. At our supposedly most 'rebellious' we reject ourselves (freaks and geeks) to 'aspire' to be consumerist caricatures(90210).
