Default k9 scat?

I am curious about the safety aspects of trying k9 scat. From what I have heard and talked about it is safe to play with if fresh but there might be worries of bugs if its old. Was also informed that it was even safe to eat, well at least not much worse then humans. once again only if fresh though.

I am curious about if anyone has any experience or actual advice on the subject.

I am NOT looking for personal opinions just actual advice, please keep that in mind when responding.

If human fecel matter is dangerous, I will assume that canine - or similar - is just as, if not more so, dangerous. If people can suffer illness from fish fecal matter and whatnot, then I don't see the logic in how anyone can uphold the notion that dog shit is effectively safe.

You'd have thought common sense would answer: is it sensible to eat dog shit?

Thumbs down

As a student majoring in biology and tropical disease I strongly advise you don't play with dog faeces and absolutely DON'T eat it! You have no guarantee the dog is healthy, even if it looks it; and many diseases/parasites are passed on through faeces (eg. worms).

That old adage 'curiosity killed the cat' - pay attention

Dog feces may contain parvovirus, whipworms, hookworms, roundworms,
threadworms, campylobacteriosis, giardia, and coccidia.

The microscopic Hookworm larvae can be passed to another
pet or person directly through the skin or by ingestion
as can other bacteria.

Don't eat dog shit.

I appreciate all the replies but I makes me wonder how others have gotten so lucky in the past. I'll keep this all in mind though.
Thanks again

I recall reading an article somewhere about a toddler who fell into dog mess in a play area and went blind (presumably after rubbing their face). For your own health I'd say don't play with it.

Is there a way to render it safe? Perhaps by heating it? (probably need a special pot just for that). Dog scat has been a long term fantasy of mine for a while, and I've been trying to slowly build up to it... I will be quite dissapointed if it's impossible to do safely.

At least in Australia, and probably elsewhere, dog faeces can transmit hydatids, which is a very nasty disease indeed.

Here's the article I mentioned: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england...ester-11012044

Honestly don't think there is/will be a way to do it safely.

Ive been delving into more chats about the dangers of it with people on scatboi and they seem to have no ill side effects aside from a stomach ache the first few times.

They said that eventally that that even stopped and that its not an issue at all anymore. Could it be that the human stomach can take care of the previously mentioned ill side effects that you are all worried about?
