Are we assuming that each letter can appear only once in the code? Or did I miss that rule somewhere?

If some codes scores a zero, you know the letters aren't in the game:

Hence: No M N O P Q R T U V W X Y Z

Because ABCDEF scores 1 and AABBCC scores 1. Because both scored 1 point and ABC is in both we know one of them is at the wrong place at both guesses.

Hence: No D E F and Hence: we know A B C


Because Code GHIJKL scores 4 points we know that at least two (at the right spot) and max four (all at the wrong spot) are right.

Hence: at least 2 up to 4 of G H I J K L --> 3 up to 5*

And S is never mentioned... But must be in it once because adding 4 + 1 makes 5 max...

For whatever reason I was implicitly assuming one appearance per letter (the standard Mastermind rule) but Dienaar has it worked out in much better detail.

Found a mistake in my calculations...

S doesn't need to be in it because

I mentioned that in previous week's set of rules but removed it because I mention AAAAAA to ZZZZZZ. I understand your confusion because of the original Mastermind rules.

Would a letter hat appears more than once generate a score for each appearance. For example if a guess contained a letter in the correct the location and the SAME letter also appeared elsewhere in the code, would it score 3, or only two?
