Aha! Someone finally saw through all the unnecessary details. The funny thing is, if you cut out those details and ask the riddle the following way, most people would immediately get it:
"The coast guard rescued 50 people from a sinking ship. But they didn't rescue a single person. How come?"

Our brains tend to stick to the details, and can easily miss the most important word.

That's a nice one. Each line quantifies the number of adjacent equal digits on the previous line.

Here's a math question: If the number of digits after the decimal point of pi are infinite, which is the larger number - 4 or pi?

The numbers after the decimal point in pi may be infinite but it dosent change the fact the Pi is 3. Woof!
