Try a tampon. Wrap tape around it to make it bigger.
Some candles will work too.

Honestly, just don't. Order one online, it only costs a few bucks and you can do it from your desk, nobody will ever know. The risk of something homemade disappearing into your ass and you having to explain that to a stranger at the ER is just not worth it.

They comes in all shapes and sizes.
They don't raise unwanted attention.
They always come out.
If you get tired of playing, you always have a snack close at hand.

I'm gonna have to agree with IcanseetheLight. Amazon has uber cheap ones and the shipping package is really discrete.

You could get a hand of ginger and make one from that. That's the only thing I'd recommend.

Actually, ginger is usually used anally for figging, and isn't the point of figging that it burns?
Other than that, the material is organic, so even if you were to lose it the damage wouldn't be immense.

Well, in my experience its rather a tingling. I found it to be quite nice actually. It gets a bit warm, but it's nowhere near what chili stuff would do. Of course that varies a bit from person to person, but it's definitely more sensation play than torture.

Your typical buttplug-shape should do just fine. Give it a couple of nudges before you put it in, to make sure you the slim part isn't too fragile. If you make a couple of ridges/cuts in the surface, more juice will come out, thus increasing the sensation.
Obviously avoid sharp or spiky edges which might happen if you've got a bit of ginger with woody spots.
