Is Kik dead?

Kik can no longer be found on the Google Play Store. I'm assuming it's also not available on the App Store for iOS devices. I had heard rumours that it was closing down, maybe those rumours were true after all.

So.... What are everyone's recommendations for alternative messaging platforms? Try to provide reasons why you like it, not just name it.

For example: "I like xxx app because I can see when my contacts are online, but I don't like that I can't see when they have read me messages."

Comment and recommend below.

I downloaded Kik last week with no problem. Started on Kik.com and it sent me to google play store.

I'm pretty sure those who already have it can keep using it. Unfortunately for those like me who had deleted it, it's no longer available for download.
