Question: Ban dodgers
Hey all,
I was trawling through the ban list to find out the reason for a user's ban and it does strike you that there are a lot of entries in there for ban dodging. My question is, how do the mods identify a ban dodger? I presume it is solely based upon IP address? If so, does this also prevent multiple accounts? Just curious as to how things work with this bbs design! |

Account Banned

Yes it does, Ban dodging is taking very serious here on getdare and people can get in trouble for having multiable ( cant spell it ) accounts now I believe sometimes the mods make a exception say if you want to stop using a certain account and im sure a few people have been banned because of it and for using them to bandodge.

Was just curious :-)
I actually had another account on here, but when I cam back to getdare after two years of absense I couldnt remember the login! Have remembered it now but I don't use that account Think IP would be different anyway, so I doubt I would get picked up on it :-) |

As far as I know, you can have multiple accounts, but if you have several active accounts, I would think that would be strongly discouraged. I am not basing this on any rule that I have read, just on comments on posts from mods etc.
I.P. address is the main way that a user can be identified but there are other ways like hardware tagging and other correlation methods. I.P. addresses can be assigned by your ISP provider as either static or dynamic. A lot depends on the type of connection that you are using. A lot of ISP providers, do use dynamic I.P. addressing to conserve resources. However in these days of “always on” broadband connections, dynamic I.P. addresses change less frequently in practice. It is also possible to use proxy servers to mask actual real I.P. addresses. It would be difficult for getDare to know if multiple accounts were in use or several real accounts from different people using the same computer in a home. I would reckon that if you did something requiring a ban then other members in the same house may also possibly lose their accounts as well. I think the question you are really asking is pertaining to users who deliberately create new or multiple accounts in order to dodge a ban or probation. In most cases it will be possible for getDare admin to spot these accounts and remove them by permanently banning the accounts.

We have our ways, and it would not be wise to divulge them. .

I mean, unless someone plans on breaking the rules, it really isn't a problem...
