Lightly toast the bread, thin spread of butter, depending on how soft you want the final product as the butter will soak in and soften. Grate your favourite cheese and add, then put under the grill until the cheese is melted. Don't burn the edges.

You can also put a spread on before the cheese to add to the flavour. Jam/jelly is nice but be aware the jam retains heat and you can burn the inside of your mouth if biting into straight from the grill. Marmite/vegemite, whatever it is called where you are is nice too, but spread sparingly. Some spread like jam/jelly and it is too strong flavoured. Even tinned fish like salmon under the cheese is nice. Even better to mix mayonaise and pepper into the salmon.
