GEEKS are into obscure pop culture (games/films/TV/comics/books/internet).

NERDS are smarty-smarty-pants who know all the answers in class and wear their trousers up past their nipples.

I see Nerds as the really smart ones, and Geeks as social people but in a non-normal way(Socially awkward). Also, possibly smart but not borderline genius.

This being said I am a Geek even though 2 + 2 challenges me sometimes.

To me, it always seemed like nerd was a very "American" term, and I always thought it meant a socially-inept fanatic (ie someone obsessed with sci-fi or "uncool" things) as well as being a know-it-all.

Geeks are someone that knows an "over the top" amount of knowledge on a highly specific and possibly useless topic, for example a trekkie.
Nerds are people that know a lot about science, maths, computing or combinations of them, they often have poor social skills and are introvert.
No, however there are large areas of overlap
These are just my opinions/personal observations.
I belive I am a geek however I do have a small amount of nerd

I kind of fall into either category. ._. I read too much and I'm a bit of a schooling-addict. My special field was in chemistry...

But I also have a somewhat strong connection to the world of hacking, (real hacking. Not breaking into people's computers <this would be called cracking.>) gaming, anime, steampunk, (My god, I love steampunk. Who would have thought that goths discovering brown would produce something so wonderfull?) as well as a bunch of other "cultures."

Personally, I hold the older assumption that geeks are highly intelligent and under-social, getting good grades and all that guff. Nerds are the ones that know the ins and outs of useless but highly amusing video games, dorky shows (like pokemon... Or Phineas and Ferb!) and, in many cases, the wonderfull world of linux. Guess it's a matter of opinion.

I suppose I'm just a dork, though. I don't fit into either category and I don't have the stereotypical lack of social skills so I'm really just the dorky guy that smiles alot and knows useless stuff. XD

How I see and define it:

Nerd - Super Smart. Anal about stats and statistics. Good with Math and such
anything mental and non physical.

Geek - into things. Physical things. Sci-Fi. books, D&D, WOW, Comics, Video Games, etc.

Dork -A Dork. Me.More action related. what he does or says. how he acts.
I can't think of any examples. but things that make people think "What a dork" And not always in a negative way. lol

That's how I see it anyways.

I've been called both interchangeably, but in a joking way. I'm really smart/studious, 4.0 GPA in college, majoring in Accounting and CIS (Computer Information Systems), but I also have this addiction to anything Star Wars related. Ask me anything about Star Wars and I'll be able to tell you about it. But, I don't lack the social skills most geeks/nerds do.

So... I'm just a loveable dork <3
