Hmmmm. Well, I guess I'd have to say chips, as long as they're cooked right. They're bleh when they're mealy. But I loooooove shoestrings (thinner fries) with melted cheese and Detroit chili on them! Nom nom nom.

Shoestring fries are the thin ones, but any potato deep fried will count as a Fry. Chips are had with Fish.

Where I come from both would be called fries. Nobody says chips around here unless you are ordering fish and chips. As far as I know, in the US there is no difference.
