Why can't I edit my original post on my thread?

You can only edit your original post in a thread for a certain amount of time afterwards. There's no way around this.

Posts can be edited for about 4 days following the original post date.

It is for everyone's protection why posts can't be edited after the fact- and I think Depp is being uber generous with 4 days. All sites I run and administer, user edit time is set at 15 minutes.

Reason? A very extreme version of it goes something like this...

I post "I really love the weather here today"

you post "so do I! It's the best ever and I can't get enough of it!"

I change my post to "I love kiddie porn. I hang around school gates and masturbate..."

Oh. and now so do you.

On a very simple level though it's just polite. If something is important enough for one to type it on a public forum, it should be important enough for you to stand by it. 15 minutes should be long enough to correct any typos or grammaticals. Any longer and threads can go awry.
