Editing

How come you can't edit older post?

I have a few typos in my story and I can edit them after a certain amount of time? or maybe its after a few posts or something.

Any Ideas?

I think it's around 3 days after you post you can no longer edit. The problem with allowing people to edit their things forever, many would go back and be constantly deleting old posts and it can seriously leave holes in threads and things stop making sense.

I always thought it used to be 7 days. Seems so long ago since got modded though (April 1st 2011 lol)

Reason as stated.
- people could delete and leave holes in threads
- people could change opinion and reverse meaning of thread.
- could use offensive language and try to change before getting caught etc.

PS - if your edit is IMPORTANT you could report the post with recommended editing for a moderator to POSSIBLY do

What is important ?

I have noticed many typo's on my story that some reason I don't see until its the 3rd time I read it.

Could be seven o.o I really don't know, same issue as you, have had unlimited editing for too long..

this rule seems to have an issue, cause it often happens laters only that someone tries/ discovers something new on a certain Topic, which could be added to previous posts. the way about asking a Mod to add the changes doesnt give much sense, since they are there to maintain the site; not to extend/ renew any of the ppls posts.

Its worked fine for the last 3125 days (8 years 6 months 22 days)

As stated- IF users could update / delete whenever they wanted it would create several problems including.

- continuity of threads (if deleted posts)
- spamming
- changing opinion
Etc.

If it is IMPORTANT a moderator will edit / change the info.
If its minor - we suggest you make a new post inside the existing thread.

creating a several posts to one and the same thread is as much bad for the continuity as completely deleted Posts. so in the end, it doesnt help.
