I've always considered shemale a separate term, as in shemale isn't a Trans woman. There are people who actively identify as shemales. Just from my experience, the few I've talked to identify as men, but they are men who look womanly. If you call a Trans WOMAN a shemale it is derogatory because they are women, and shemales identify as men. But this is just my experience, and I don't want to speak as though it is the same for everyone

I'm a trans woman (no I don't have a dick before anyone asks) and the only times I've been called that is by people trying to hurt me (like when I eventually disclose that I'm trans to a potential date). It's the same with "tranny". People know they are offensive and that trans women really don't like them. They are slurs, simple as that. They are only used to put us down and reinforces the whole stupid idea that we're not "real" women. Yes, I know 'shemale' is an established porn them and that's fine. Porn is hardly known or being very friendly. I mean shit, they still call black women 'ebony' and so on. I have no problems with it being used for porn, the problem is when people can't tell porn from reality, which unfortunately, is far too common. |
