Well as I perceive it, if I know I can hit that score, I will most likely hit it again within the time frame. That's why on games that I've lost, I won't replay them because I haven't gotten to that score. Some exceptions can occur, but for the most part whatever the score was on the last attempt is either the minimum for a win or a maximum for a loss. Kinda weird, but it's how my mind is. Just hit Level 14. Score 136,385...

EDIT: I don't know if you quit or what, but I finished the game. There was only 2 levels after level 9. Quite easy up to level 9. 9 took some time, but it wasn't impossible. If this was meant as a single life run, I'd see it as impossible to do without dying at minimum of 5 times.
