The only numbers which are on must have an odd number of factors. The only numbers with this property are the square numbers. 1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 36, 49, 64, 81 and 100. Hence 64 is on and the total number of bulbs on is 10

64 is on, because it has the factors 2,4,8,16,32 and 64. So the state is changed 6 times. So a bulb can only have the state "on" if it is changed an odd number of times. Thats for the numbers 1,4,9,16,25,36,49,64,81 and 100 (all square numbers). All other numbers are factorized in pairs, only the square numbers have one pair with the same numbers. For example 64 = 1*64 = 2*32 = 4*16 = 8*8 (3 pairs + 1 single number), but 30 = 1*30=2*15=3*10=6*5 (4 pairs).

Great parts rachie, sorry i havent been commenting, i usually read this story on my phone when i'm at college and it's difficult for me to type on my phone
