No, I filter all that. It calculates the two results (right & wrong place) separately. Then I give 2 points for each right-placed letter and 1 point for each [wrong-placed letter minus right-placed letter].

If you understand the concept of variables and functions.

1. wrongCharacter = calculate_wrong_place(correctCode, guessCode)
2. correctCharacter = calculate_right_place(correctCode, guessCode)
3. score = correctCharacter * 2 + (wrongCharacter - correctCharacter)

Else, if the code would be (e.g.) ABCDEF and someone tries to crack it with AAAAAA, it would give a score of 2+5*1=7, which is very misleading considering only 1 A is correct.

BBBLLL gives a score of 2 if one of the Ls is in the correct place. Which would be one of the last two Ls.

Unless I've missed something significant I think you'll find that your guess gets you a 9 while mine gets the 10 or 12.

Your guess would give you 3 points for BBBLLL because 1 at the right place (2 points) and one at the wrong place (1 point). So your last L is at the wrong place! (making it 2 times a L at the wrong places gives you 2 points. So L is in the third spot!)
