I think what you should do with the key is this :

If you go to Lowes/Home Depot you can buy a small bag of the ready mix concrete stuff. Make a small form out of some scrap wood, and make half of a brick. When it sets up, you can put the key inside of it (inside a small envelope, or something like that). Then complete the brick, with he key inside. Make sure you initial and date the top as it sets up. Then you have possession of the key......but you can't cheat.

If you do decide to do that, you should take a bunch of pictures of the process

you dont have to take pics of yourself if you dont want to, but I think it will be awesome if you did some of the sealing of the keys.
