Here I will try not to confuse to confuse you here, but our state in Austrliaa has laws with sex as well.

10-16 - Allowed to have sex on as long as the person is not 2 years older or younger than themselves, not over 16 or under 10

16 - 18 Although this is changing now, it is still if your over 16 and under 18 you cannot legally have sex with anyone under 16 or over 18, but as of last year I think they changed that law to say you could have sex at 16

18+ - legal go for your life.

Porn only over 18+.

So that is the laws concerning this government here in Australia, but then every state is different, and there are some states you cannot have sex until they are 18+, one state if your a guy 16+ is allowed, but 18+ if your a girl, no gay sex until your 18+ for girls and no anal until 18+ for guys. So this is the confusing part of sex laws as there is no uniform rule anywhere in one country let alone in the world.

This is where people can get into trouble coming from other countries where consenting age is different and they are unsure of the rules, so always check the rules and make sure that you are not under the countries rules you left. Here in Australia if I was to go to Canada and have sex with someone under 16, I could still be charged under Australian rules, so make sure if you go from one state to another, or one country to another you are not bound by your own countries rules.

The UN doesn't have the authority to make such a law, and most of the "laws" that it makes are non-binding anyway.

The thing is, these rules are there to protect the children... even i would say 14 is a very young age to have sex. And i am very liberal in sexual things. I general , 16+ is ok...

To have another age for anal or homosexual sex is silly (we don't have something like that here) I see no reason why you would make a difference...

Difference between age you are allowed to have sex and allowed to buy a porn... The point here is if you allow someone to buy porn you could see it as "animating" him to have sex. Allowing an 16 year old to have sex is one thing animating him to have it is another... 18+ for porn is ok...Maybe i have to add, i see this from the European standpoint where a lot of things that may be considered "porn" in the US are shown in TV even during afternoon. I am talking of 18+ for real Hardcore porn...

@reaper: As TrekBoy said, they don't have the right to do it...

That's the same in the U.S - there was something on the news not too long ago about a man who was overseas, had sex with a 13 or 14 yr old & got charged with statutory rape when he got back to the States

I think it's actually most countries have that as a rule to try to stop "sex tourism" i think basically if in doubt go with the older age between the two laws (your countries or the one which you're visiting)

That is not correct... Minimum Age is 14, but with restrictions until you are 18...

Edit:
Strafgesetzbuch (§§ 174 - 184f)... Short Version as far as i understand it:
14 is the minimum age for sex as long as you are not a ward (teacher for example) and no prostitution
as soon as one person is over 21 the minimum age is 16 (again with the "no ward" and "no prostitution" exception)
I am no lawyer... so i may have misinterpreted some of it...

Age should never matter. It seems we as americans created a high age limit, but before that there was no real age limit. The whole thing is really stupid since people have sex when they are that young anyways so whats the point?

The point is to protect children. Would you want your 13-14 year old daughter having sex with a 40 year old? This is what these laws are for. It is not to stop the kids doing things that we as adults can enjoy (although some Christian fundamentalists will say they are), it is to protect the kids from predators and other things that can happen to them out there as they start getting curious.
