It only works with very good understanding between a sub and a dom. Denial is a certain way to know you're making a sub uncomfortable.

I don't really think hypnosis really works but I choose hypnosis. Although I do get turned on by the idea of extreme pain, I just know I will not be enjoying it whatsoever. I might also be wrong about the hypnosis.
