I want to gender bend a cosplay for my next cosplay

Personally, I'd chop the hair off and keep the sailor-vibe for the top. Just make it less girly. You could look up sailor uniforms for reference. And make the skirt into shorts or pants. Keep the color scheme though. Another way to go would be a gakuran (since it usually pairs up with seifuku/serafuku for school uniforms, but I'm not sure anyone would really get the reference... As for other options... I know plenty of people have tried genderbending the girls from Madoka Magica, and it tends to work pretty well. ^^
