Gentle start to Public

Easy: Buy a collar for a cat and wear it around your ankle all the time, whether you're home or out in public. You'll spend lots of time thinking about it and wondering how many people notice and what they think and stuff.

Option: Get a couple metal tags and put them on the collar. Sometimes when you walk they'll clink and more people might notice.

Option: Buy two cat collars, one with a bell and one without. In private, wear the one with a bell. When you go out in public, change to the one without a bell. How long like until you forget to change it and everyone's know's you're wearing something made for an animal?
