Why No Snow!?! Why is it always Rain?!?

Posted 01-28-2010 at 06:38 PM by lokelake

The answer IS NOT because of Global Warming.

BTW, this is for the US.

Look at the map below. Look where the low pressure is (the black "L"). I drew a path for it, (totally made up).

The south side of the track is always warmer than the northern side of the track. The reason is, the warm air comes up from the south.

Cold air comes down from the north. That's why the northern side is always the colder side.

So, if the low passes to the north of some states, those states will get rain because they are on the warmer side. At the same time, that low, passes to the south of other states, so those states will get snow.

On the map below, the red arrow is the warm air coming northward, so therefore, the red circle is the places that will get rain.

The blue arrows shows the cold air coming south. So the blue circle, is places that will get snow.

Bottom Line: It all depends what side of the storm you are on, determines if you get rain or snow.

Loke, I am in the blue circle and we will receive neither snow nor rain. Just figure I'd let you know your map is a little wrong. Also, the low is going more south than that, like through South Carolina

The way I drew it, the low will be moving east, and then north east.

It won't even touch South Carolina.

How will you not receive snow?

    How is it wrong?

Besides, it was just a demonstration to help show what I am getting at.

No need to be too critique about it.

Oh come on, not another super secret thing, so just tell me why it is wrong... Now!

Ah. Woops, I guess I confused people. All that I drew, is totally made up by me. It's not my prediction about the current storm. I just decided to put the low where it is and the path.

Also Loke. You are right, this weather isn't because of Global Warming. It is because it is the beginning of a new ice age.

I am a little skeptical about global warming. I just wanted people to know the reason why they get rain is not because these years, the earth is too warm.

MBP: "Yummy! Got to get me one of those"! I guess you want to eat unhealthy hamburgers too.

No, the map I used is just an example. It does not represent any storm current, past or future.

Accuweather said this is the second year in a row Houston got snow. Pretty amazing stuff

This year, well, 2009, but the same winter season, your right, they did get snow. I think how they got it was, a cold front went through, which brought in much colder air, and then the storm came close to them (but still to the south), but it had to precipitate for a little while to cool down the temp closer to 32.

    Wait, McDoubles, or McDonalds?
