    My new project :)

This could work out great. We will need a strenght circle to see which type of card is strong against which one.

The amount of cards should be enough to facilitate all players. Might be up for testing and helping out a bit.

    Bringing people together

Yes! That was exactly what I was thinking when I made the card game thread. I've made so many good friends from getDare, and it's great that it's giving people reason to meet new people!

And also you messed up my gender again.

    Sleep...a dangerous game...

Butterfly's suggestions are spot on! Setting a routine is stellar! As far as actually getting to sleep I have a few pointers too!

I had to go to a sleep specialist because of sleep issues, and this is what I learned:
30 minutes before you plan to sleep, don't look at any more screens (phone, computer, etc.)
Take melatonin an hour before you are trying to sleep
Don't hang out in your bedroom except for for bedtime, only go in there when you are planning to sleep (and sex related things are okay too! She specifically said sleep and sex!)

This only helps after you have the routine set up, but once you decide what time you want to sleep, do the above, and omgosh it makes a world of difference!

Also, I am sooooo happy about your thread, thank you so much for doing all of that!

My suggestion would be to set a bedtime routine. Choose things that help relax you: reading, a bath, a cup of tea? Once you have a routine in place, keep it consistent.

Don't start by trying to change your pattern drastically, just try 30 minutes earlier than normal and then keep adjusting it until you are in a better routine.

Thanks all for the kind words...this is why I love this site, people aren't judged here unless they are assholes haha!

Works kind of the opposite way to the real world

I appreciate the people I've met here, and love what this site can represent! This can be one giant playground for people to explore and to grow!
I want to do everything I can to help here, if anyone needs help with a thread let me know, happy to spam it if needs be!

Also...visibility is indeed a toughy on this site, trying to come up with more imaginative names for posts which stand out, I think all the person above and loser has to threads tend to dominate the feed...would love to filter those out sometimes haha

You guys have all made me feel more positive and I would love one day to never regress to depressive slumps...oh what a better world that would be!

I wouldn't feel too bad, your threads all seem interesting and well thought through though. From what I can tell you seem like a nice enough guy as well. I think perhaps your 500 post thread struggles with visibility rather than content. That said my last one got 61 views and 0 replies and I let it die so maybe I am a bad person to comment

I honestly don't post much in the threads, and I haven't been active at all the past two weeks, but I do want you to know that you are noticed and appreciated. I am sorry that your thread aren't always appreciated. Like Happy said, this site can sometimes suck, but then there are beacons of light, usually from members like you, that make it all worth it. That's why I have stayed.

I can understand a lot of where your coming from. I too struggle quite a bit with anxiety and depression. (Enough to have ruined many many friendships and one very good relationship.) While my struggle and yours are very different and seem to manifest themselves differently, I hope you can feel a little better knowing that you aren't alone. I can't tell you how big of a smile I had on my face seeing my name and the words written by it. ^_^

I've told you before that your threads were what tipped the scale for me and got me to finally sign up, and I struggle to understand why they seem to have the problem that they do. Maybe I just really like games though... Se la vie, I suppose. I'm still, slowly, working on my messy dungeon game. I'll be taking a different format. (Most likely a choose your own adventure type game with multiple options in spoilers for each event, or maybe dice rolls. Probably both.)

Anyway, I don't want to ramble. Feel free to shoot me a message anytime. I'll gladly post in any of your threads, even if I'm not getting messy or getting you messy. XD

    Fairness...

Just going to make a quick distinction that I kinda screwed up in my last post (now edited it). When I say bots I mean the default computer controlled characters in games and when I say AI I mean computer controlled characters that can actually be taught how to learn stuff.

In a sense a computer controlled character can be considered to be cheating to make up for the fact that its more difficult to program something to act in as complicated of a way as a human. Shooting in an FPS will come down to a bit of maths with a % hit chance despite your best efforts to duck dive dip and dodge. In a driving game, many, as you say, have short cuts or other tricks that the bots don't use but players may. I would imagine it would be trivial to program those bots to use the shortcuts or some cheats (there will always be that one that the programmers had no idea about, see any speed running) but its only a secret shortcut that makes you feel good for finding it if the bots don't take it. Otherwise its just the main route. The bots not being programmed to use these additional tricks but to cheat to catch up is sort of a in game difficulty slider. If the human knows the tricks that slider moves up to be more difficult and if they don't down to be easier.

In Mario cart the better items for people who are further behind is also given to player who are further behind even in a multiplayer game. The games I would imagine don't need cheating are the ones with matchmaking to make it already even (e.g. competitive games).

True AI is basically better than human players of any game. They can see further ahead, calculate faster, react instantly. Though it is fun to read about people confusing the AI by doing illogical things (before it learns how to deal with it). The truth is we can basically create an AI or machine to do any task better than we can. I am unsure if we have tried making one that can write AIs but that's just asking for the singularity and I think we need to really talk about that one as a species before jumping right in.

A couple of questions to think about. In board games you often get the ability to attack other players in some form. If one player is currently winning and all the other players decided to attack that wining player, giving them a disadvantage by comparison to the other players, then is that cheating? If that isn't cheating is that just because when they started the game they agreed that there would be attacking other players? Is it OK if we are not told but never notice? Would you feel better if a bot cheated to catch up to you or slowed down to let you catch up to it in a game?

    Fairness...

    Thank you for your comments

It's always nice to hear another's point of view...and I would never pretend what I think will match everyone else.

I enjoy being challenged on my patterns of thought, as I feel it is the best way to grow and develop better and more intelligent ways of thinking

I'm always one to get frustrated when computer games cheat haha, but I appreciate the point that it gives you extra challenge and extra thrill when you do win!
Though to offer a small counter argument, does the computer cheat merely to be able to play at the same level as the human brain can play, in effect trying to balance the inherent inequality of a human against a machine?
Take the Mario Kart example, Humans employ tricks, tactical drifting, using feathers to jump over obstacles, using hidden short cuts...note that the computer generated characters don't follow these tactics, though of course they could be programmed to.
If the computer was always faster and more accurately timed than you and you could never win...there would be a lot less fun and frustration would set in and then you wouldn't play the game...
Computer games are a balance between fun and competition, hence difficulty settings in part.

But loved reading your comment and indeed it adds to my thoughts on the subject
