Let's just say, theoretically, someone you knew and liked a lot was going through something difficult. Pretending she was ok with something when the reality was quite different. Of course, people tend to cope, even if the mechanisms can be harmful. Somehow you can see through the facade, however strongly it is maintained. You want to help, to be there, and so you are there.
And thats how it begins. In friendship, but protective. A desire to look after someone, make everything as close to alright as the world allows. Time passes, but that desire doesn't ever go away. Not much time, admittedly. Sometimes it doesn't take long at all, when you strip everything away. Friendships deepen, blossom. Untold desires speak and are returned, and something is formed.
Still time passes, as it does. Revelations, surprises. The truths we don't tell, not to lie, simply to protect. And each new thing learned only strengthens. Each honesty a sign of trust, hard to earn, harder still to give away.
There is passion, lust, intensity. There are laughs and tears and tantrums. Reality bites, taking chunks of time and emotion, but reality is simply truth, which can only ever be an inconvenience, not an enemy.
Throughout and above everything, the prime desire remains. The reason it began, the reason it exists. Protection, taking care of someone who has become an integral part of not only your world, but of you yourself. Whether through playtime, through the life changing decisions, the little daily rituals, or simply telling her what she is worth, that she is loved.
And on to the future. Some things are planned, others desired, yet more in flux. Anything could happen, the journey is far from over. One thing requires no planning, no hoping, it is inevitable. She will be cared for, protected, looked after. Never changed, but given the room to see just how beautiful she has always been.
