This is an age old theory of how to look at how humans interact. On the psychological side i believe it was Jung who said it. Ties in with the whole archetype thing.

I don't think there is one true mask. Or one "real" me. You are made of the composite of all the social masks you wear, all the ways of behaving which you take in different social events.
