a carnival performer who performs sensationally morbid or disgusting acts, as biting off the head of a live chicken.

geek (ɡiːk)

2. a boring and unattractive social misfit
3. a degenerate

nerd

a stupid, irritating, ineffectual, or unattractive person.
2.
an intelligent but single-minded person obsessed with a nonsocial hobby or pursuit: a computer nerd.

I'd define myself as a geek. I have strong interests in things outwith the norm, I'd say I'm fairly smart, whilst being socially adept and capable. In my own view, nerds tend to be a bit more singleminded in their interests and generally less socially capable (although this is a generalisation)

Here is my opinion, a nerd is just a brain. While a geek is someone who likes technology and unconventional stuff.

It's actually vice versa. Nerds are the ones with the higher IQ's, popularized by people like Steven Urkel and Dexter from Dexter's Lab. Nerds are the guys with pocket protectors (because they carry pens with them all the time to write smarty stuff down) and pocket reference versions of the periodic table of elements . . . if they don't have it memorized.

Then we take geek. Geeks and nerds share similar social standing and may even act or like the same things or share similar interests in hobbies, but geeks aren't as cerebral as nerds.

Compare "band geek" to "chess nerd".

I suggest urbandictionary. It may not be the "correct" way to use the word, but you'll find the way that it's used more frequently and hence the way it is most likely to be identified at large.

I've been told countless times that geeks are nerds in all forms-- except the fact that geeks KNOW they are, and make it into something. Nerds go on in their lives completely oblivious to their nerd-iness.

Is it possible to be a geeky nerd or a nerdy geek?

MAJOR GEEK! And I'm proud of it. Although I'd have to define it as more of an artistic, theater, and science geek. Because I'm pretty obsessed with all of them and I'm into technology stuff as well. But yup I'm a geek

In England, geeks are the more academic people, while nerds are those with obsessive hobbies like comics and board games like Dungeons and Dragons.

With that being said, I'm a bit of both, but more of a nerd.
