Your Views On.... Blackmail

The title says it all. Just wondering what everyones, yes, everyones (That includes you Doctor) view on blackmail.

My view is that I wouldnt want it to be done to me. I like my own privacy and I dont want anyone knowing anything. However I have made a friend of mine to do things just because I said that I would send a nude picture of him to his friends if he didnt and he did everything I said, Great fun.

So, what are your views?

Other than "play blackmail", I hate people who seriously blackmail others, in the majority of circumstances it's pathetic and horrible.

Blackmail is usually non-continual unless it is some sort of play blackmail with agreed limits.

I’m certainly not into blackmail. Giving or receiving.

I think it could lead to big problems if it got out of hand and in the extreme wreck lives.

"Play" blackmail is fun, REAL blackmail isnt. Thats just fucking with someones life and its not cool. Unless its all consensual, then i dont agree with it.

Some people like the idea of blackmail, which I can kind of understand, even though it's not my thing.
But the person with the photo should never, ever send the picture to anyone. Nor, in fact, should the 'victim' actuallybelieve it's real. Even if there's no real risk as the blackmailer does not intend to send the pics, if the victim think there's a danger of them being sent then they're going to get really scared and might get some serious problems.
They should always be honest that it's only for play, and this requires an awful lot of trust.
I've had experiences with strange people starting conversations pretending to have pics, and even though I know they're lying, I always get this mini heart attack before my brain kicks in. If someone actually fell for that, there could be a lot of trouble.

i have been blackmail. it was long ago with one of my mistress and i wanted to end the relationship. she didnt want it to end so she blackmailed me with my pics i gave her. its a real feeling of helplessness. but it all end up working out in the end

Blackmail - live, actual blackmail - is illegal and you can go to prison for it. Not sure about the sentencing but I imagined it could vary dependign on the circumstances.

Play blackmail is not real blackmail, so it is better, although it does nothing for me.

Every time I've included blackmail in my stories it has always been turned against the blackmailer.

I would not give in to blackmail. I would prefer living with the intended shame (real or not) than to submit to someone's ill will.

Play Blackmail vs. Real Blackmail

Play Blackmail - The idea behind this is actually rather stimulating but there must be actual rules and boundaries to which must be adhered. The idea that someone has a certain 'power' over you that others do not and can 'force' you to do things that you normally wouldn't do is mentally stimulating. The fear of being exposed by those you wish to be kept in the dark about certain aspects of your life can be thrilling as long as the actual 'threat' never reaches fruition.

Real Blackmail - Heh, this is why trust in -any- sort of relationship is vital. I don't want my BDSM activities exposed to my vanilla life in any form. I once had a Dom who threatened to publish some extremely provocative photos of me on a board where I role play. The people at this particular site are friends of mine but most are unaware of my BDSM activities and two of them were exes who had been trusted with pics of me and never betrayed my trust. Fortunately, I'm a Global Moderator there. When said person registered an account, I obtained his IP addy and perma-banned him before he could manage to do anything and gave his IP addy to a friend. Needless to say that the relationship ended. (And his computer mysteriously crashed a few days later.)

This pretty much sums up my feelings on the matter. As a very private person, I rarely show my face on webcam or even take pictures including it. There's just too much that can go wrong if you don't trust the person.
