Insomnia: do you suffer from it and if so, do you have a cure?
A simple question, and one very close to my heart.
Insomnia: how do you deal with it?

The best cure for insomnia is a good night's sleep.

I occasionally have a night where I cannot seem to relax and fall asleep. I've found that having a bowl of cereal helps. Something in the milk causes me to feel sleepy within 15 minutes of having it. Might not work for everybody, but it's my trick.

Sadly I don't have a cure for insomnia. All the stereotypical remedies (counting sheep, warm milk etc.) don't seem to work for me. However, something I did learn in college is that if you can't get to sleep, no point in laying in bed all night trying to get to sleep do something to occupy yourself until you're really sleepy such as reading, sudoku, or something along those lines.

I have bouts of insomnia which can last for weeks, by which time my sleep cycle shifts so that even when they go I can't sleep at night.
I wouldn't advise it long term, but I have found that drinking a reasonable amount of alcohol gets rids of insomnia in the short term. To get rid of a bout completely i've found the only sure fire way is to stay up through an entire night, preferably without drinking any caffeine, then go to bed at your normal time the following night- this can make you so tired that it outweighs the insomnia.

I listen to movie scores and other songs with no words... Either that or I watch movies that I have seen a thousand times so I don't feel the need to watch them, just listen and turn my brain off to thinking about the real world.

Insomnia comes from stress usually... It's usually having too much on your mind about everything in life that causes you stress which causes you sleeplessness.
