Signature Links Subforum question

Having a signature links forum definitely seems like a good idea - I'm not much of a blogger or blog reader, but I do sympathise with those that do that the blogs section is getting kinda cluttered by those kinds of posts.

However, I have a concern about the subforum as-is. What is the purpose of locking the posts? Some kind of database optimisation?

Also, what is the guideline for when we want to update our interests/toys/experiences? Should we make new posts in our threads or new threads?

I feel like making new posts in the thread would make it very tricky to organise things by category, and making new threads would over-clutter the subforum and waste space in the database, so I personally would rather be able to edit the post.

Just my two cents, and I'm definitely interested in hearing the rationale and guideline.
