I'm person I use a thick rubber strap. It tends not to bruise, but have had plenty of feedback that it stings like crazy.

Canes can do what you seek too, depends on their thickness and flexibility also. You have to ask your spanked to try severals.
Canes tend to leave marks for several days though.

Yes I suggest a good cane. Get one that is flexible so it wraps around your cheeks and in-between.
