Self bondage?

I see/receive a lot of dares that say 'tie yourself up', I don't really understand how that works, especially when they are usually something like 'tie yourself up for 30 minutes or until you edge'. Do these dares just require the illusion of bondage? I don't really understand how I can a)tie myself up b) in a way that in 30 minutes I will no longer be tied up

It's more than an illusion, it's literally getting ropes (or an equivalent, like dressing gown ties or neck ties etc) and tying yourself up. I think just saying "tie yourself up" isn't specific enough though and is lazy to be honest. If I was given this task, I'd ask them how they'd like me to do it.

I always give specific instructions so the person knows what I want them to do.
For example, "Tie your tits up in a tight figure of eight. Sit in a chair with your legs spread and tie your ankles to the chair legs. Put your dominant hand behind the back of the chair and tie in place. Then only untie yourself once you have edged four times with your non-dominant hand and came on the fifth."

Obviously when doing bondage alone, you have to willingly tie yourself up and you could escape whenever you wanted by just reversing the given instructions because no one is there to stop you. But the idea of self bondage dares is to only take it off when whatever task you were given is complete. So if it says "stay tied up for 30 minutes or until you edge", you remove it yourself but only after the requirements of the dare have been fulfilled.

If you're into self bondage, it's useful to know a few slipknots so you can make all the knots, position them where they need to go so you can just put your body parts through the loops and pull it all tight. These ones are harder to undo (especially if you make a loop for each wrist) which means it's more likely to feel like real bondage because escaping isn't as easy.

Besides what is mentioned above there are easier methods for tieing yourself up for 30 minutes.

What you probably need to know is that most people who are into self bondage know what software is available. One of these programs is a CD Tray opening software that opens the CD tray of ones computer after XX minutes. Now what you might not know is that you can connect a shoelace to the CD Tray, which if closed is stuck in it. But if the CD Tray opens, falls down. This way you can connect keys to the shoelace and you have a so called release mechanism, with deadly precision of timing.

Another non software related system many people use is Ice timers. Basically they freeze a key or string in a block of ice and then put this somewhere high or just out of reach. As soon as the ice melted enough, the keys drop down and one can acces the keys. Disadvantage here is that its not very accurate in terms of timing, but most reliable.

Now this only leaves you puzzled with how can you tie yourself up... Basically as long as your hands are free one can tie anything rather easy. Securing feets, legs, chests to objects or themselves. The only tricky part is the hands. Most selfbondage enthousiast save these for last and use handcuffs to cuff their hands behind their back. This doesnt allow them to undo any knots they made somewhere else and will force them to wait for the key to fall down to uncuffs those handcuffs.
