Hi all,

I had a 16 yo speak to me the otherday on MSN. he has a 30 yo master and goes on webcam for him, strips, wanks etc all on cam. Doesn't show his face.

Now this is against the law but my question is how easy is it for the 30 / 16 year olds to get caught? My understanding is someone would have to tip the police off for anything to happen? Or do the Police have a special way in finding this stuff out.

And no, i'm not talking about myself in this thread.

I think someone needs to tip them off. Otherwise it'd be an invasion of privacy to randomly check people's webcams and chat logs for no reason.

In the UK, it's legal, though. Kid's over 16, so he's permitted to take part in sexual acts.

Isn't it still illegal to do stuff like that until you're 18. And either way his Master could be in the US, what does that mean?

From what I read the other day, conversations on IM are legal, but anything further (photographs, webcam, anything irl) is not. The age if an adult is involved is almost always 18, I believe?

I suppose so, I'm not too well versed in the official laws of internet relations.
As for different countries, again I'm unsure. If a boy of 16 in the UK, had a girlfriend of 17 in the US, would he be a paedophile, for he is over the legal age, and she is below it? It's too difficult to define. :P

BDSM is far from illegal in the UK... how could you make it illegal? :P As for harm... you have tons of fights all over the UK, police will break a fight up and hold you in a cell for the night, but if the only charge is assault (as opposed to disturbing the peace, property damage, etc), and the other person doesn't file a charge against you, they have to let you go.

I've heard there are tons of BDSM clubs all over the place, too. XD

Make sure you know the laws of the people involved, namely the older person. Just because it's illegal in your area/state/country doesn't mean it's illegal in other areas/states/countries. A webcam conversation is like a real-life meet between the two - if they're allowed to meet up IRL for sexual acts, they're legal to have webcam conversations too. Reporting the people to the police is just going to cause them unnecessary trouble and take the police's time away from actual crime.

FYI: In my country, 14 is the age of consent (restrictions apply).

Actually it is very much not legal. Whilst the age of consent here in the UK is 16 any pornographic images or videos (and that does include a webcam) containing people under the age of 18 are classed as child porn - and having or even watching that will get you in serious trouble if you are caught.

There are so many variables. I'm studying law to become an LEO, while the law I'm currently studying doesn't include sexual activities, I can say that if he's got any prior record of sexual assult, battery, etc. He's in deep shit.

If he has any prior record, the government has the right to search and seize his entire computer (granted with a warrant of probable cause). They find any hint of him doing this with a minor, he's screwed. Fines, jailtime, etc.

Now if he doesn't have record, and the Police find him somehow, he's name get's it's own page on WatchDog (basically a list of every sexual offender in your area, you're neighbor, mother, and everyone else in the world will know what you did.) If I were him, I wouldn't take any chances.

Other than that, he'd have to be tipped off. Or hit an online undercover (and there are more of those around than you think!)

It is a interesting topic to discuss. In my opinion, I think it's wrong. It's an age difference of at least 14 years. But, if it's legal then I can't really fuss.

What do you think is illegal? If they're both above the age of consent, it's not pedophilia in the legal sense. Videos would be child porn. Not sure about your legislation, but over here, as long as you don't keep a record of the webcam feed on your hard drive, it is not defined as a video (or picture) but the webcam is just a tool to see the other person, like a pair of glasses. If the person is legal to stand in front of me in this very room and perform sexual acts the person is legal to do so on webcam. The webcam is just the tool for bridging the distance between us.
But again, your law may be different.

In most US states the 16 year old is in trouble. There's an actual case where a 14 year old girl was arrested for possession of child porn for having txts of a 16 y/o on her phone.

this is a problem with this website... I dared someone recently (at their request) and in their request they had offered to provide proof, photos or descriptions. I therefore told them to take pictures and send them to me. It was only later that i realised they MAY not be 18, so i PM'd them and told them not to send any pics if they were under 18. One, i dont want to break the law, and 2, i'm not interested in photos of minors anyway!

The prob with the site is that i have no way of telling how old the person is, or has said they are. Thoughts?
