im new to this site and have been looking through some profiles, and found one i couldnt private message, i was wondering if there was a reason behind this? is private messaging not open to all users?

Users can disable private messaging if they want to. So that's probably the case with the person you've tried to contact.

that, or their PM box could be full, although you normally get a message telling you that is the case
