☆ Scary Movie Time! ☆
It's October!
And it has been for 16 days now, I know. But I was just watching American Horror Story and realized this is the month for scary things. <3 I tend to watch a lot of horror movies in general, but this month I feel like it's totally justified and don't feel like such a weirdo doing it. Does anyone else take October as an excuse to totally binge on scary movies? Are there certain movies you watch every October because of the season? What's your favorite scary movie? Do prefer old classics or the new and independent films? Psychological thrillers or gorefests? Supernatural or slasher? Zombies, vampires, ghosts, or werewolves? Questions don't need to be answered to reply, this is just a discussion thread. I'm going to watch at least one scary movie every day for the rest of this month and I'll be posting little mini reviews/summaries. I'd love some suggestions as to what I should watch, especially if they're indie/foreign films.

Scary movies totally break my toughness. I can't stand watching them, especially the semi-realistic ones. I get nightmares and I curl up in a ball for a whole week every time I watch one.
Halloween and Halloween 2 I guess are my least favorites/most scary to me of all time. I'd much prefer ones with ghosts or zombies.

Scary Movie Review #1: Shadow (2009) Shadow is an Italian movie in English rather than subtitled or dubbed, which is awesome for those of us multitaskers that like to look away occasionally. The story line is pretty basic, American war hero gets lost in the woods with two bad guys and a pretty lady. They all end up in the same creepy area, becoming entrapped by a crazy butcher that hangs out in a lost nazi concentration camp deep in the woods. This was great for a low budget film. I wouldn't consider it really gory or scary though. There were a few moments that made me jump, but nothing to awful. Although the plot does seem and bit basic and the characters rather cliche, the ending does manage to surprise you and definitely makes you think. For anyone interested, it is available on instant for Netflix. Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWqux25I3o4

I am an avid cinephile and when it comes to horror/thriller I seem to be a lot more interested in classics and specific eras rather than the latest flicks. A lot of the recent films of that genre seem to be more about special effects and elaborate makeups, at least it seems so to me
Whenever October and Halloween approaches tv channels play classics like Carrie, The Exorcist, The Amityville Horror, etc. and I can't count the times I've watched them anymore Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho is another classic masterpiece and probably my favorite too. Oh and if I'm just looking for "scary entertainment" there's also the good old '80s slashers like Friday the 13th and the likes. Those are fun too |

Scary Movie Review #2: Dying Breed (2008) Oh my goodness. If Australia wasn't scary enough with all the snakes, spiders, crocodiles, and drop bears...We need to have Cannibals too? Dying Breed brings together two of Australia's creepier stories, the Tasmanian Tiger and The Pieman (Alexander Pearce, a man hung for cannibalism there in 1824), for a pretty decent thriller. This is a creepy film that takes advantage of the scary setting that is the Tasmanian forrest to create lots of moments to make you jump. The story was interesting, but not amazing. Two couples go off into the scary woods with the crazy locals to find a legendary beast. Sounds like a great holiday. If you're looking for something with major plot twists, go somewhere else. Dying Breed is pretty straight forward from start to finish. Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9W0FqWQzO4

Scary movies don't really mix well with me. I've only ever seen one- Prom Night, and I don't think it was supposed to be that scary of a movie. Nevertheless, I was shaking for hours afterwards. I prefer watching the investigation discovery murder/serial killer documentaries. :3

I am a horror movie whore >.> The shinning is my favorite (As it plays in the background)
Last year around this time I saw paranormal activity for the first time and then went to see the second one for my friends birthday. Now as sort of a second year tradition we are going to go see the third one on Friday for her birthday again. The previews look super creepy. Recent watched Session 9 which was pretty decent for being a rather unknown one. Also, stellz, I love you for giving me new movies. Please gimme more good ones!

Oh geez that looks screwed by. I'm more into like creepy, psychological horrors over gore. But if you're looking for a really screwed up movie, my friend said "I spit on your grave" is pretty messed up

Scary Movie Review #3: Red White & Blue (2010) Red White and Blue is a movie about the lives of three people coming together in a very...different sort of way. The majority of this film is a character study of these three people that leads up to a major twist, changing the movie entirely. I really, really enjoyed this movie. It was very different from most thrillers I've seen. At first I thought it was really slow moving, but I became more and more involved. None of the characters are particularly like able, but they have mostly interesting stories. In the end, I felt sorry for all of them. The story actually moved me. It wasn't just some blood, guts, and gore thriller. It had a bit more depth and meaning. If you're looking for something intense and scary...but different from your normal movie, definitely check this out. Oh, and it's available instantly if you have netflix, yay! October or not; I watch scary movies throughout the year because I have loved scary movies since I was 4; at-least that is my earliest memory of watching one. I don't know why, I just do.
