Sorry for the short update, uneventful, but I do love a cliffhanger and I needed a way to progress the story. Rest assured, tomorrow night I'm going to have a lot of free time and (perky and mandi willing) hopefully a little inspiration or at least motivation to write some more, much better, chapters... Or at least an independent short story which I owe mandi and which will be far quicker to get into it, so to speak

She spent the whole of the next day completely distracted. Every time her mind wandered to last night or that note the butterflies started... She was so unfocused that she actually missed her stop.

Walking back in the rain, she reached into her pocket, and felt the card. It was wearing a little thin, she'd been fumbling all day with it. Looking up at her window across the street, she felt a hand on her shoulder that snapped her back into reality.

'You're late.'

His voice was calm, almost bored. She didn't know why, but she was filled with a sudden urge to explain herself. She was always so secure, so confident, how did he make her feel like this with only two words?

'I'm sorry, I...'

'It doesn't matter. Are you ready for this?'

Her heart skipped. That was the question she had been asking herself all day. Was she ready? Would it matter? Was he offering a way out, or was this rhetorical, and simply another way to assert his dominance?

His hand left her shoulder, and she turned to see him walking towards his building. She didn't even hesitate, she was at his heels before he reached the door. Apparently I am ready for this. She giggled nervously to herself.

'Good.' He said in that same bored way. 'After you.' He gestured, holding the door for her.

She took a deep breath, composed herself, and entered...
