Moffet confirms a series 7 which will involve Matt Smith as the Doctor. The BBC have granted 14 episodes. This could be 13 plus a christmas or christmas plus 14 more in 2012.
It isn't clear if all of the series will air in 2012 however as air time is very tight and many dramas across all channels are been axed as the BBC makes way too The Olympics and the EURO Cup. These are just the summer fillers as well. If you include the African Cup of Nations as well in early 2012 then you can see why even a series of 13 will struggle to make it on air.

It's a series + Christmas, business as usual. They won't decide on how to schedule it, though, until 6B has aired. They'll want to see if it's a success or not first. But I reckon it's a safe bet to say we'll get what they've done this year

Or, at a second guess, they could even do an Easter special, then begin the series proper in August/September, allowing the series to overspill into 2013. Then Series 8 could begin around the 50th anniversary.

In a some what contridictorary manner a spokes man for BBC Wales has said that 2012 will only have four specials. This would give 2013 the right to have "something special" if series 7 is broadcast then.
Moffet in an interview with SFX Magazine stated a load of goballedy guck and produced a little meaningful answer to the question of when series seven is coming.

It's likely that they don't know how it'll be sheduled and when it'll be scheduled yet, but various sources say different things. Me, though. I don't care. Yet

By decade/era, it's more a generalisation. But then it's just as hard by Doctor because you have to take into account production quality/problems/stuff, and writers, and directors, and the actor playing the Doctor. Like Tom - he goes through so many different phases with his characterisation of the Doctor.
