I got my first one when I was 13. Bought it with my own money, and paid for the bills myself.
Your parents should let you have a cell phone when you can afford one. It's not a necessity, so if you want one, get a job. Stop bugging them about it every night. |

i got mine when i was in grade six or so. And that was only because otherwise my mom ended up forgeting to pick me up from cross country or track practice. It was a great phone...very durable to. it survived the washing machine and the river. my pool finally took it out though. and since then i've had five or six different phones...wow i'm terrible at taking care of phones.

My first cell phone was an analog bag phone and modem I got when I was 21.
I didn't even get it to make phone calls with. I was living in a very rural area which had no internet service locally, and at the time long distance calls weren't cheap. I'd dial in twice a day, to fetch email and netnews and to send responses I had drafted offline. (The web just barely existed at that time. I think the first public release of Netscape happened shortly after I got my cell modem.) When an ISP opened up in a nearby city, I got the cell phone and modem, since it was cheaper (but slower) than dialing long distance on the landline. I ditched that cell phone a year and a half later, when an ISP opened locally. My second cell phone (the first one I got for me, rather than for my computer) I got at age 26, partly because I was seeing someone long-distance at the time (and cell-cell calls were free), and partly because I started traveling more for work. A few years ago, I visited my university for the first time in a long while. When I went to school, it was common for people to just lounge around, read, and talk on the quad. During my last visit, everyone was walking around the quad, either with a cell phone stuck to their head, or eyes down and thumbs working to send text messages. That's when I first really realized I was starting to get old. |

Got mine sophomore year of HS, 3 years ago, still have the same phone. I love it!
We got rid of our land line 2 years ago, so we actually have to have cells. It seems a lot of the younger people here pay their own bills. My family's rather backward, I pay tuition and such myself and my family pays the little stuff. Last edited by Pibb; 02-15-2010 at 08:29 PM. |

9! Ha!
I got my 1st phone in 4th grade when i was 9 because that was the year i started walking home alone from school(I used to walk with my brother but that was the year he started middle school)I had like a dozen phones a year since then cause i either brake it or lose it. I think i was a little 2 young when i got it. i remember when i was in school 1 day i was actually juggling with my phone, my ipod, and my metronome(something i used in band class to keep time) and i dropped my metronome and phone and it cost like $20 for a new metronome and like $80 for a new phone. Now it costs my parents like $100 a month 4 my phone bill cause im 15 and i dont work. whatever money i do have im saving 4 when i get a car i can pay 4 gas.
