and now, for a riddle....

John was driving down the road after recieving his new perscription lenses, when suddenly he was ran off the road and forced into a gaurd rail on purpose by Jack. Seeing the glasses beside on the floor at Johns feet, he put them on Johns face, and drives off. The detective gets to the scene and imediately announces this was a hit and run with the itention. How does the detective know this?

Actually the first riddle was really just a joke, as for the comment at the end of it, that was a clue. Yes, by the way, the answer is time.
