A more likely response from someone who is really abused would be to deny the abuse completely or heal and either 'stop' being subby, or decide to stay that way because of other reasons.

We do not choose our preferences, we do not need to have any traumatic things from the past in our minds. Sexuality is a mystery and no one really knows, why one is submissive, why other is exhibitionist etc.

I won't vote in this poll, because none of these choices are the right one. I didn't just choose to be submissive one day, I just always have been. Not because I had an abusive boyfriend, or parents who neglected me.

I have read and re-read this thread, debating whether or not to respond. I find the notion that subs/slaves are only born from past trauma to be infuriating and very single minded. I grew up in a wonderful home, my parents were married until the day my mother died. It wasn't broken or abusive. I was popular in school, never bullied. I had one abusive relationship, but I was submissive long before that. And quite frankly, I came out of that relationship stronger than ever in terms of standing up for myself. I am now the CEO of my own company, I own my own home, I make more money than my Master does. I am not submissive because of anything that happened in my life, I am submissive because that is who I am. I feel like making the judgment of a sub must have been abused is equal to saying a gay person became that way because of something that happened to them or someone became a serial killer because they saw someone get murdered (extreme example, yes I know). But my point is that, for the most part, we are born to be the way we are whether that's straight or gay, violent or passive, dominant or submissive. There are very few circumstances where life events influence those core characteristics of our being.
