Non-Fiction: Restaurant Dare at Age 13

This is from when I was 13. Three friends and I were eating lunch at a pizza restaurant. One friend and I owed the others a dare for having previously lost a basketball game to them. This was mid-afternoon, between the lunch and dinner peak times, so there were only a few other customers in the restaurant and it was fairly dark. We sat at a booth against a wall, with the friend who owed the dare and me sitting on the inside of the booth and the other two sitting on the outside. We were wearing athletic shorts and T-shirts.

The dare was for him and me to trade all our clothes while sitting in the booth. We attempted to negotiate for us to not have to trade underwear and socks. As a compromise, they allowed us to take our underwear and socks off and turn them inside out, rather than having to wear each other’s. We decided the best time would be right after the waitress brought the drinks to the table. That would give us a few minutes before the pizza would come out.

While sitting in the booth, we both kicked off our shoes, pulled off our socks, turned them inside-out and pulled them back on under the table. After looking around to make sure no one was close, we both took off our pants and placed them on the booth next to us, then pulled off our underwear, turned them inside out and pulled them back on. We then handed each other our pants underneath the table and put them on. Then we slouched down real low in the booth, quickly pulled our shirts off, handed them to each other above the table, put on the new shirts, and sat back up. Finally, we kicked our shoes across to be close to the other guy and put on each other’s shoes.

It appeared that no one noticed. At least no one said anything. Then again, what would someone say? Our friends thought it was hilarious. We were really scared, though it was kind of exciting at the same time.

sounds really nerve wracking at the time but fun to look back on, i wish i had the chance to do something like that looking back but probably would have been to scared.
